You know, Bollywood’s “dream projects” keep getting cancelled one after another. The latest one to get dropped is Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan’s big Dadasaheb Phalke biopic. It was supposed to be a huge tribute to the father of Indian cinema, but after months of creative differences between Aamir and Hirani, the film has now been shelved.
Apparently, Aamir; being the perfectionist he is; wanted the script exactly his way, while Hirani didn’t want to compromise on his style. Neither of them backed down, and in the end, the project just quietly died before shooting even started.
This is actually the second big setback for Aamir. His superhero film with Lokesh Kanagaraj also didn’t take off and got shelved. With two back-to-back cancellations, Aamir suddenly doesn’t have much on his plate.
Hirani, on the other hand, isn’t wasting time. He’s already working on a new drama, and buzz is that he may cast someone like Ranbir Kapoor or Vicky Kaushal; actors who fit into his style without trying to control things.
So, while Hirani is moving ahead, Aamir’s habit of wanting full control seems to be creating problems for him. And sadly, Phalke’s biopic, which could’ve been such a special tribute, is delayed once again because of Bollywood’s behind-the-scenes drama.
Ranveer Singh’s much-talked-about action spectacle Dhurandar is fast becoming a production headache. What was once mapped out as a 130 day schedule has ballooned into an exhausting 180-day slog with the finish line still nowhere in sight.
Sources say constant reshoots and dissatisfaction with earlier material are the main culprits. The director and creative team have reportedly struggled to pin down the tone and execution of major action set pieces, leading to costly re-filming.
The damage? A jaw-dropping budget surge from ₹300 crore to ₹350 crore, and that’s before factoring in P&A costs. Frustration is mounting on set, with crew members privately calling the project “bleeding money without a clear vision”
Dhurandar Delayed Again and Don 3’s Future Hangs in the Balance.
Initially aiming for a 5th December 2025 release, Dhurandar will now arrive sometime in the first quarter of 2026 pushing Don 3 into yet another delay after several previous setbacks.
For Ranveer Singh, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Following a patchy box office run in recent years, Dhurandar is viewed as a high-stakes comeback vehicle. Bollywood’s mega-action thriller War 2 is reportedly caught in a real-life battlefield, not between the film’s heroes , but between its lead star Hrithik Roshan and director Ayan Mukerji. Sources close to the production have revealed a growing rift over the film’s runtime, final cut, and even control over the direction of key scenes.
The first cut of War 2 was a massive 3 hours 10 minutes, which Hrithik allegedly found “overlong and indulgent.” Ayan reluctantly trimmed 7 minutes, bringing the runtime down to 3:03, which was certified by the CBFC. But the real drama began after certification, when Hrithik reportedly insisted on cutting another 10 minutes, arguing that a tighter narrative would enhance the film’s pace and commercial appeal.
The final runtime now stands at 2 hours 53 minutes, and Ayan is said to be “deeply disappointed” with the outcome.
“He feels the emotional spine of the film has been compromised,” said an insider. “This wasn’t part of the creative process. It was a power move. At this point, the film reflects Hrithik’s version, not Ayan’s.”
Adding to the tension, whispers from the set claim that Hrithik ghost-directed multiple action sequences, stepping in to choreograph stunts, redesign camera angles, and override creative choices , often without formal discussion. While Hrithik’s experience with action films is unquestionable, insiders say Ayan grew increasingly uncomfortable with the actor’s behind-the-scenes control. “There were days when the crew didn’t know who to look to for direction, “Hrithik or Ayan,” shared one insider. “It became uncomfortable, especially for the ADs and technical teams.”
The friction has now spilled over into post-production and marketing, with Ayan reportedly distancing himself from the film’s promotional activities. YRF’s top leadership is said to be mediating to avoid further escalation.
With War 2 poised as a major chapter in the YRF Spy Universe, expectations are sky-high but the off-screen drama is starting to eclipse the film itself.
For now, the fiercest battle in War 2 isn’t choreographed. It’s happening in the edit room.
