Mamonth – Budgeted Dhurandar is Struggling in Advance Bookings Despite an Initial Push from the Makers.

Industry awaits for Dhurandar.

Dhurandar has been certified A by the CBFC and carries an approved runtime of 3 hours 24 minutes, along with a 4-minute post-credits scene, making it the longest Hindi film since Aamir Khan’s Lagaan.

The film is slated to release on more than 3,500 screens nationwide, with Jio Studios handling distribution. Advance bookings opened on Saturday evening. By the end of the day, the film will have sold around 40,000 tickets across national chains (PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis). With three crucial days to go, Dhurandar is on track for a final pre-sale figure of around 1,20,000 tickets in PIC.

The makers boosted the initial advance with external factors, a common practice for films backed by Jio Studios.

Dhurandar is targeting an opening of ₹16–18 crore domestically and ₹8–10 crore overseas, aiming for a combined global opening of ₹28–30 crore. However, the film will require strong word of mouth to achieve these numbers.

Beyond the slow advance bookings, the bigger concern for Dhurandar is the performance of Tere Ishq Mein. With a fantastic weekday hold, that film is set to retain strong shows next week as well. Distributor Anil Thadani is reportedly complicating matters for Dhurandar, and his influence in the distribution sector is well known as the recent example being Jaat vs Kesari Chapter 2.

An opening in the ₹20 crore range would not be bad for a Ranveer Singh film, but the challenge lies in its massive budget of approximately ₹300 crore.

Over the past two years, December releases like Animal and Pushpa have set numerous records. The industry now waits to see whether Dhurandar can continue this trend.

Both Aditya Dhar and Ranveer Singh return to the big screen after a long gap. Dhar’s last directorial release was Uri in 2018, though he has remained active with projects such as The Kerala Story and Article 370. Ranveer Singh returns after Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, released on July 28, 2023.
