The Legacy and Craze of Spiderman.
The Spiderman franchise has completed 25 years in 2026, and its box office journey in India tells the story of how the character evolved from a niche Hollywood superhero into a full-blown mass phenomenon. It began in 2002 with Tobey Maguire’s Spiderman. That trilogy laid the foundation, with Spiderman 3 alone doing ₹66.50 Cr lifetime in India, which was a huge number for that era. The baton then passed to Andrew Garfield in 2012 with The Amazing Spiderman series. Both films did solid business, with Part 1 at ₹80 Cr and Part 2 at ₹81 Cr, showing consistent growth and a growing appetite for superhero cinema in India. But the real shift happened in 2017 when Tom Holland debuted as Spiderman in the MCU. Homecoming opened at ₹7 Cr and did ₹74 Cr lifetime. Far From Home jumped to a ₹9.75 Cr opening and ₹100 Cr lifetime. The previous film did ₹200 Cr+ lifetime in India even during COVID, with 50% occupancy and competition from Pushpa and 83. This time, the market is healthier. The previous film opened with 60%-70% morning occupancy even during the COVID days. Spider-Man: No Way Home was the film that brought audiences back to theatres after Sooryavanshi’s release. Spiderman: No Way Home opened at around ₹32.75 Cr, with ₹20 Cr from two national chains, and an approximate footfall of 5.75 lakh+. Of the ₹32.75 Cr, ₹8.20 Cr came from the Hindi version alone. It was the only film that crossed ₹200 Cr net during COVID, surpassing Sooryavanshi. Spiderman: No Way Home did outstanding business in the South, but the North circuits also performed really well. Delhi/UP, East Punjab, and West Bengal all saw strong footfalls. This time, Mumbai is expected to join the party as well.
